6 weeks: While it takes 6 weeks for healing of the bone injury, most people have pain for longer. This is a very sensitive area. Pain for 3-6 months is not uncommon. Using the donut pillow really helps.

i have had a broken tail bone for 6 years. it started hurting again like it did when it first broke. what kind of doctor do i need to see if a broken coccyx? it keeps snapping more and causing horrible pain. really hoping someone can help.

Fracture coccyx: You could see a primary care and  get x-ray or the area or MRI, and they could treat conservatively with ice NSAIDS, donut pillow,. or could go to orthopedist who would treat similarly or if severe may inject  with steroid or in the rare event could perform surgery for unremitting pain .

Time: There is not much to do other than protect the area and let it heal over the next several weeks.  Use a donut cushion that will allow you to sit and take pressure off of the tail bone.  If the pain is poorly controlled with meds then an injection may help.  Discuss your options with your pcp.

Not at all!: The spinal cord does not go down that far, so all you are doing is breaking bone. It certainly can be uncomfortable as it heals, but it isn't going to kill you.

Soon: The sooner the better. Even after a coccyx fracture, it is ok to begin a motion and strengthening program

my orthopedic took a x-ray on my lower bone and told me my growth plates are closed on my lower back and i stopped growing i am 17 years  old and i am a boy i thought boys stop growing at age 20 can my legs still growing taller ?

No: My preferred place to evaluate growth centers is the wrist/hand since there are so many to see &amp; published standards. Growth stops in men between 16-18 for most, rarely longer in some. If the growth centers are closed you cannot grow taller.

Teen cancer is rare: The normal hard lumps in the head and neck are bones, which are symmetrical (left side same as right side). A newly-found hard lump should be evaluated to see if it is bone, or more commonly a lymph node or a cyst. A lymph node on the back skull can fee like rubber bean. If worried, an ENT doctor can look at it, and advise on whether to watch it or remove it. If truly bone, a scan may be needed.

Coccyx: If you have a broken  coccyx, you would generally have pain in the tailbone. However the only way to confirm that it is broken is to obtain imaging. Sometimes it can be visualized on an x-ray but at other times you may require a ct scan.
