Yes: It does help to open them at birth, and might strengthen the breathing muscles, but it does nothing for the lungs themselves (good or bad).

No.: The major effect of these paddles is on the heart.  They can sometimes restart a heart that is stopped, and sometimes reset an abnormal rhythm and get it to go back to normal.  I have never heard of a lung "bursting" like you describe.

i was holdingmy one week old baby to clean her up and it looks like i was pressing too much on her lungs for 2 mins. she wasn't crying as she usually does and when i laid her down on the bed her hands were blue. is she in danger?

: Baby is testing you. I would not allow this. Immediately tell him NO/HURT and punch him, not to injure him but with enough force it will hurt some. We treat our new babes like kings, doing everything for them until they begin to develop mobility and self- help skills. At some point they all get confused when we don't immediately do everything the "King" wants. You must set limits on their behavior
