ONLY PROTEIN : Standard urine dipstick only measures protein by colorimetric method. If urine is postive for protein, exclude false positive, eg fever, uti, exercise postural. If positive, quantify it by measuring both protein and creatinine in the urine. . 1+ corresponds to about 200-500 mg/24 hours, a 2+ to 0.5-1.5 gm/24 hours, a 3+ to 2-5 gm/24 hours, and a 4+ represents 7 gm/24 hours or greater.

Empty ; discard first morning urine, then collect all the urine you produce for next 24 hrs up to ; including next morning at same time as u started day before. Take entire 24 urine sample to a lab where they can measure protein content. Or measure 24 hr volume ; just take or send a small sample informing lab of 24 hr urine volume so they can calculate it.

A good thing: The test among other things is to determine if there is kidney disease which may cause it to leak proteins    if the result was too low to calculate, then it probably is clean of protein and that aspect of kidney function is normal.
