i have a bottle of calamine lotion that is about a year over its expiration date. can i still use it?

I suppose: The expiration date is there as an indicator of potency.Use after that date implies that the ingredients have broken down and will be less effective. The breakdown products are unlikely to produce a significant injury. I never liked this lotion anyway.I consider it too drying and of little benefit beyond giving you something to do.

No: The only thing calamine lotion will help with is drying up blisters.  If there are blisters, then put it only on the blisters and not the normal skin.

Calamine tends to: Dry out skin. Keep sunburn cool w moist cool/cold compresses.  Avoid alcohol containing products.  Break off pieces of aloe vera plant & apply sap to  skin.  Consider non-steroidal anti-inflammatory meds to reduce pain. Don’t yank off peeling skin or burst blisters. Seek medical care for severe pain, fever, lack of improvement of symptoms within several days or if a large surface area is blistered.

Yes: Calamine lotion to soothe skin itching and pain. Do not use too much that it caked and is hard to get off. You can also put cool wet cloths on the area. You can put cornstarch or baking soda for rapid healing. To help remove loose crusts, soak them in the tap water. Hope it is helpful.

Hydrocortisone 1% cr: For bug bites I would use otc hydrocortisone 1% cream for itching.  Avoid the face if possible.

Bad choice: This will just make you look worse. Acne is best treated with topical benzoyl peroxide. If you're not clear in two weeks, get with your physician. All acne can be managed, though the only cure is time.

Yes: Topical use (on the skin) of Calamine lotion is not a problem,  even in kids with G6PD deficiency.  Make sure no large areas of open skin, though.

: It depends on what the rash looks like. If there are open areas, neither is probably a good idea. But, if it is closed, then calamine lotion would probably be more soothing. However, you should be treated by an oral antiviral medication that your doctor can provide so hoping that you are taking this medicine. If not, see your doctor to get a prescription. Good luck!
