would a diaphrame help prevent/eliminate acute vaginitis? i'm 36yrs old and every time i have sex, i get bv? i'm super clean before and after. my partner as well. any advice? i'm at the point of wanting a hysterectomy?

: A diaphragm will not protect against acute vaginitis, and neither will a hysterectomy.  Introduction of organisms which cause "BV" or other types of acquired infections in the vaginal canal are related to external sources of bacteria, yeast and viral infectious agents.

BV: Bacterial vaginosis (BV) is an imbalance of bacteria in your vagina.  Experts are not sure what causes the imbalance.  Make sure that you have the fishy odor.  Might be something else if no odor.  Your risk is higher if you:
1.  Have more than one sex partner or have a new sex partner.  2.  Douching.   So if you are douching, then stop.  3.  Smoking.  Vaginal therapy with metronidazole gel works.

Test &amp; Treat: Studies show that when one STD is present, others may be as well. You and your partner should abstain, get full STI testing, and get treated and abstain until treatment is completed. Full STD panel includes Gonorrhea, Chlamydia, Syphilis, Hepatitis B, (+C if drugs/male/male sex/risky encounters) and HIV. Stay calm and get tested and treated. Advise all partners to get tested/treated

No, get Rx.: If you and your sexual partner are in a mutually monogamous relationship then seek BV treatment with a GYN MD as bacterial vaginosis is not a STD as such unless recurrent.

: Yor diagnosis may be wrong. Pl get a good vaginal/pelvic exam from a Gyn for proper diagnosis and treatment and in the meantime use a condom till adiagnosis and treatment is done

Bacterial vaginosis: Your BV should be treated, probably with metronidazole. Until then, it would be best to avoid sex or to use condoms consistently. BV often persists or is harder to cure with continued sex. Also, you and your partner should be tested for STDs like gonorrhea and chlamydia, which are more common in people with BV.
