whats the danger in using borage oil or pilla?

Accepted Answer

Liver issues: can occur if the product has unsaturated  pyrrolizidine alkaloids.  Because of the concern of reliable quality in US products, I usually prefer other sources of GLA.  There are companies that remove the  pyrrolizidine alkaloids, but you should be careful about choosing your product.

i started taking 5 borage oil pills daily 1000mg . is there anything harmful doing this. dr. oz suggested 800mg daily of gla. each pill contains 160mg?

Accepted Answer

Clarify: If the total you are taking is 1000 mg per day, this has been used safely for up to 24 weeks. If they are 1000 mg per pill, you are taking way too much.

will draining the bursae help heal the inflammation area quicker and last longer than seeing a physiotherapist?

Prefer draining : I happen to be a believer in draining large fluid filled bursa and then injecting a tiny amount of corticosteroid to reduce inflammation.  I get referrals from physical  therapist to do just that because they have a difficult time treating bursitis.  If only small fluid, l opt for oral NSAID like Naproxen and some compression tape.

why are my hip and shoulder bursae inflamed?

Accepted Answer

Overuse: It could be from a variety of reasons.  Are you exercising too much or have a very physically demanding job?  If you are overdoing it that could lead to bursae inflammation.  If you have an inflammatory disease that could also be a problem.

what happens when an injury to the elbow causes the bursae sac to leak? does this cause long-term damage? can it heal itself?

Accepted Answer

This : This can usually heal itself.  It is important to be sure there is no other elbow injury such as a fracture.  A risk is infection, and if the area became red, swollen, or the patient has a fever then they should be seen immediately.

how to compare the number of floaters? i've got my laser barrage done on 13th may. i had floaters in my visual field before that too. and now i feel like they might have increased slightly or have i become conscious about them?

: You should call your retina specialist if you think you see more floaters because it is considered a complication of laser therapy.

I wouldnt: I never recommend anything to induce labor unless it is in a more controlled environment.

Letting your labor naturally start is always safer for you and your baby. Unless of course, you are going too far past your due date. 

I wouldnt take a chance with over the counter products to induce labor, .

can i take a fish, flax, and borage vitamin with a multi vitamin?

Accepted Answer

Yes, however...: Yes, this is fine. For good health we need essential vitamins, minerals, fatty acids ; amino acids. Fish, flax ; borage provide essential omega 3 ; 6 fatty acids. One should get Amino Acids through diet. Optimal health also requires phytonutrients from fruits ; vegetables so a healthy diet is essential. For best absorption take oils ; vit separately, vits after breakfast/lunch, oils after dinner.

does doing a b/l barrage around the areas of lattice degeneration greatly reduce the risk of retinal detachment? are there any risk in this procedure?

Accepted Answer

Perhaps: It is recommended if there is vitreal traction, holes, tears, and/or is symptomatic. In that case, it can lower the risk of future retinal detachment. The risk is very minimal in competent hands.

can i expect an increase in floaters after undergoing barrage laser procedure for lattice on retina? i mean can the laser cut through the vitreous?

Accepted Answer

Yes: Vitreous separation and vitreous hemorrhage cause vitreous floaters in your vision.  This can also result in hazy vision.  The laser procedure helps to prevent a tear from occurring at the edge of the lattice degeneration and progressing to a retinal detachment; however it does not resolve the vitreous floaters.  The vitreous are unaffected by the laser.
