sharp burning pain above left ankle only when touched?

Accepted Answer

Where above ankle?: Where specifically are you "touching".  And, what do you mean by "touching".  There are nerves that pass by the ankle and if they are irritated they can produce "dysesthesias" with light pressure.  Make notes of precise location and then see your doctor to correlate.  An underlying mood disorder will tend to make you more prone to these things, with less found on exam.

post sprained ankle week ago. swelling is down completely but bruised & very hard muscle and really hurts when touched on leg above ankle. now i get burning pain in muscle if stand for min but pain instantly goes away after i lift it. is this normal?

X-ray needed: If you had work up done initially, a follow up will be needed to reassess. If you did not have it examined and based on Ottawa rules, an X-ray will be needed in order to rule out fracture.

burning sensation down frontboth legs, mostly left. left foot tingles in certain area when touched.hx of bilateral forminal stenosis,bulging disc l4,herniated disc l5 s1. no diabetes. started 2 days ago. f/u with neuromuscular if gets worse. any idea?

: 1)  Good PT evaluation 
2)  MRI of the lumbar Spine 
3)  Referral to a Good Neuro Surgeon
4)  Use of medication (Prescription or Non-Prescription) , manipulation, is not a cure , but to help alleviate some discomfort for a little while.
5)  Neuro Surgery is not the ultimate cure, but more permanent , than # 4

Something is amiss.: It sounds like you may have damaged more structures than what is typical of the average sprained ankle. You really should be evaluated for soft tissue rupture in the plantar foot and ankle.

Tendinitis : With a side of nerve inflammation. Most likely part of the injury process and should respond with rice time and conservative care.  If the talus fracture you list is recent then would definitely recommend close follow up with your doc.

Burning sensation: sometimes in ankle sprains the nerves that supply sensation to you feet and toes get stretched and can cause a transient burning sensation. Muscle/ tendon complex can cause burning sensations when they are over stretched or injured. See you local Podiatrist for a complete foot exam.

Possibilities: Hard to tell without more of a history and examination. May need more support in form of more supportive shoes and inserts. Sounds like there may be nerve impingement.

Pressure: This could be due to prolonged pressure on that ankle,like sitting crosslegged, it should go away in a day or two, if persists then see your PCP.
