If I understand: If i understand what you are saying, you're asking how to make a period lighter by having less uterine lining to shed?  If that's your question, the answer is, you should consider oral contraceptives or birth control pill.  The pill tends to make women's periods lighter and shorter.

What did your doc: Say? Your doc should have explained all of the possible causes to you, could be from too much estrogen building up benign tissue, could be form intrauterine polyps or fibroids, could be from pre-cancer- hyperplasia or endometrial cancer if you were my pt i would do an in office hysteroscopy and biopsy  to r/o anything bad and then i can rec txmnent, hopefully your doc does this in the office.

Hormones: At 41, your hormones change and you are not sending the same signals as when you were younger,  make sure that the lining is not building up and getting thick.  Your gyn can evaluate this with an ultrasound.

Unopposed estrogen: Estrogens build up the inner lining, progesterone from ovulation then transforms the inner lining into a cushion for a fertilized egg. When there is no ovulation and hence no progesterone, the inner lining keeps growing. Eventually, the uterus starts shedding some of the inner lining, builds new/more lining up in other places, and the vicious cycle continues.

Endometrium: Endometrium is very crucial for  the female reproductive cycle. In a post menopausal female with irregular bleeding with thickness of &gt;5mm, an evaluation is required with endometrial biopsy orD &amp;C.
In your case, 43 yo  with about 3cm endometrial thickness which seems quit enlarged. Ensure that pregnancy test is done after which if negative, an endometrial biopsy or hysteroscopy/D&amp;C need to be done

US reading: Assuming this was from an US reading, it simply means that your uterus was measured and found to be in the "thick" classification category.  As long as you are getting regular routine evaluations with your GYN dr. and getting your normal screening test done, and have no symptoms, AND assuring your GYN knows the report of the US, and is following you...then you should be fine.

Unclear: A uterine lining grows by less than a millimeter a day during one's follicular phase of the cycle (the first 7-14 days).  Not perceptible to the naked eye even if you had an ultrasound every day.  Follicles grow on average anywhere from 1-3mm in 24 hours.
