TMJ & burning mouth: Tmj is a three letter acronym for temporal mandibular joint.  The term is incorrrectly applied to symptoms of pain related to many causes affecting the joint itself. It checked by a dentist who can locate and treat the causes for the pain.  Two of many reasons for burning mouth are burning mouth syndrome or more likely infection.  Some nutritional deficiencies or drugs can also cause it.

Possibly.: While not a common side effect, it certainly may be one. Ask your doctor about changing to another antibiotic, if you are still on it.  If you have completed it, then wait another week or so and see if it goes away. If it doesn't, or  if you have any other symptoms still, see your doctor.

See derm/oralsurg: I would suggest that you be evaluated by either a dermatologist or oral surgeon. This could be related to trauma or might be something more significant. Seek derm or oral surgeon care and closely monitor the lesion for any increase in size , color, or texture. Depending on these changes, a bx or further testing might be a possibility.

BMS treatment: Because no underlying cause of BMS has been identified, treatment of BMS has usually been symptomatic. The pharmacological therapy is the treatment of choice. Recently  clonazepam is used in the treatment of BMS. An alternative medicine, acupuncture is also helpful.

Yes: This can be very troublesome. I had herpangina and this was the worst aspect of the illness (lasted for months), and many people have it much more severely. If no cause (hormones, meds, GI reflux, xerostomia / sjogren's) is found, a good multivitamin may help. Topical anesthetics and lozenge Clonazepam are used & sometimes it resolves by itself.

Many causes: Burning mouth can be caused by a number of things. I usually evaluate for vitamin deficiencies like B12 and folate (folic acid). I have seen it with patients who are hypothyroid as well. Sjogren's disease can cause it as well as acid reflux.

Variable: It can be varied.  See your doctor.  Sometimes prescriptions can be helpful (anti-yeast in particular).  Some otc treatments which may help include pro-biotics, live culture yogurt, and capsacin.  Avoid spicy, sour, crunchy, and salty foods.  Good luck, this can be a difficulty problem.
