A : A lump under your arm pit definitely warrants investigation. It could be something as simple as a cyst (fluid filled lesion), swollen lymph node, abscess(infection) or a lipoma (fat filled lesion). More concerning would be a tumor that could possibly be malignant (cancerous). The bottom line is to have an examination by a medical professional.

Call your doc today: I would call your doc first for eval and treatment--possible need of incision/drainage which can be done in office with ease. This problem can be quite painful, but not really needing an er visit. 
So, i suggest calling your doc rather than heading to er (a very expensive visit)...You may end up waiting in er many hours just to be given some antibiotics. Good luck.
