See below: Most people get infected by human herpes virus type i (hsv-1) during their childhood.  This virus remains dormant to be activated when the host  is stressed or running a fever.  "cold sore" is tingling blistery bump developing when hsv is reactivated.

Not different and No: A regular cold sore on the lip is a regular herpes blister or herpes outbreak. They are the same thing. They are quite common in the world's population, and are usually caused by herpes type 1 virus (testing a cold sore for herpes type 1 is not necessary).

Probably not herpes: People with herpes (either oral or genital) are immune to new infection with the same HSV type they already have, so it is exceedingly unlikely your oral herpes is now causing genital infection. Also, a new HSV infection cannot cause a visible bump in under 2-3 days. Half of all adults have had HSV1; husband may be immune to your HSV1. If blood test positive for HSV1, no precautions needed.

Dr. can check throat: Throat pain can be from strep throat (antibiotics are needed), a cold or influenza (antibiotics usually not used), or from some other cause. One's FIRST case of oral herpes can cause mouth sores from front to back. Later recurrences should cause cold sores on or near the lips. To lessen mouth pain, one can see her doctor and ask about mouth rinses (some contain anesthetic, Maalox, Benadryl, etc.).

Basics: Cold sores are caused by 2 strains of the herpes simplex virus. If you both have the same strain, you  cannot pass the same strain back &amp; forth like a strep throat. It might be possible if the strains differ, but it is most likely they are identical. Cold sores erupt when the virus re-activates in the tissues. Once you have the strain in your system it remains indefinitely.
