Tonsillitis usually: Takes a while to decrease in size and pain. It will take more time for the tonsils, if it does happen, to go down. Some cases they don't and remain enlarged, blocking your airway and potentiating more infections in the future.  Talk to your ENT specialist about options if they remain enlarged in 3 weeks.

URI : Sound like an infection with more left-sided symptoms. Most respiratory infections don't need an antibiotic and some do. You should see your doctor.

Sx's: For significantly sore throat w swollen tonsils / lymph nodes – see physician &amp; get a strep throat test &amp; culture. Antibiotics are imperative for Strep Throat.  Try saltwater gargles. Mix tsp of salt in 8 oz of warm water – gargle w this several times/day. You can gargle w Aloe Vera juice a couple of times per day. A mix of chamomile tea w honey &amp; a small amt of lemon juice helps.

It may be normal: Bumps could be tonsil stones, or calcium deposits.
Get it checked if these are persistant.

Tonsolith: Sounds like a tonsolith which is a small area of either cells or clumped particles that sits on tonsil or in a tonsil crypt. Not dangerous typically.  Sometimes these cause bad breath.

If your tonsils look particularly bumpy and this is not their usual state, you should have your doctor or an otolaryngologist (ENT) have a look at them, especially if you are also experiencing throat pain, difficulty or pain swallowing or fever.

Stone?: Food , debris can sometimes show up as a discolored spot on your tonsil. Otherwise I would get tested for strep, mono, masses by your doctor. Good luck
