Ventral hernia: This could be a ventral hernia (weakness in the abdominal wall).  If it is painful or doesn't go away you need to seek formal medical evaluation.

Maybe: Patients with thoracic lateral discs complain of pain that wraps around their back and can go to the abdomen region.  Usually when it comes from a thoracic disc it is a sharp shooting type pain.  However if you have only left upper abdominal pain this may not have anything to do with a disc as several other things can cause this. Please see your pmd.

Several things can: Cause this.  One, particularly in children, they suffer from something known as Kwashiorkor - which is a severe form of protein-calorie deficiency.  It can lead to fluid in the belly - known as ascites - and enlarged livers, both which can make bellies more prominent.  Two, parasites can infest the gastrointestinal tract causing bloated abdomens.

Many things: Many things may cause a feeling of bloating or bulging in the stomach.  Medications and inadequate fluid intake are a common cause of this feeling which is associated with constipation.  Does anything make the bloating better or worse?

Improper form: When doing ab exercises you must contract(hold in) your stomach very tight. Otherwise, you are building muscle outword. Also, you have to diet and do lots of cardio to eliminate belly fat or the increased size of your abdominal muscles will push the fat outwards.Also, you have to vary the exercises you do as your body quickly adapts. Diet is also very important. Avoid carbs , protein is your friend.

Spot fat loss does: not occur naturally. By losing weight in general  some may be abdominal fat.  But, we don't get to choose what area of body fat is lost from. Eat healthy &amp; be physically active. Calories burned must &gt; those consumed. Tighten ab's: crunches, reverse crunches, exercise ball crunches, pelvic thrusts, lying leg raises, side bridge &amp; “bicycling” exercise on back. Do regular aerobic exercise.

Hernia?: Maybe a hernia? I would have that looked at by your doctor.  If it's not that, it may be a cyst or something benign like that.

Stomach bulge.: In most instances, a stomach bulge is a sign of excess weight. It is impossible to "spot lose" fat, so the real answer is a good longterm diet plan. You should aim for the number of calories which yields 1-2 pounds of weight loss a week. Good luck.

Diet and exercise.: The best way is to follow a low glycemic load diet and exercise. You should search on your computer what that diet consists of and how much you should eat at each meal (3/day) and snack (2/day). Exercise 2x/week- 40 minutes aerobic and do resistance workouts (free weights or machines) to tone muscle. Crunches and leg raises will tighten tummy.
You don't need heavy weights to tone up!
