why do i have bruises down my spine for no reason?

Posture?: The most common reason that i see skin discoloration over the spinous processes (the superficial bumps that you can feel on the spine) is from chronic pressure on the skin.  This occurs from sitting in chairs with poor posture, essentially bruising the skin between the hard chair and the bone underneath.  This would be an unusual presentation of a serious problem, but an md eval would be advised.

Observation: 2 yr old with "bruises down spine". It is common to see minor bruises in this age group especially in areas that receive trauma related to play such as the extremities and even over the spine. Areas that are not exposed to trauma with normal play, e.g. neck, abdomen, chest, etc. can suggest abuse or blood disorders. See your doctor if bruises do not resolve or you notice excessive wound bleeding.

Injury?  : Well you may have injured this area. If so the soft tissues take cavelike to heal give it a week or so and see if resolved

Spine pain: Likely some irritation to para spinal muscle.  i would try ibuprofen for a few days.  If this does not improve in a few days get checked.

Bruising?: Presumably this is not traumatic. Consider Henoch-Schoënlein Purpura (anaphylactoid Purpura); Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpera (ITP). Go see a hematologist today!

Neck discomfort: In the absence of recent strain or other injury, lower neck tightness or aching can be due to underlying arthritis of vertebrae, poor posture, chronic tension, improper positional postures in bed, computer work, watching tv or inappropriate pillows, drafts from air conditioning or wind. Consider these causes and determine if any apply to you.

? "coagulopathy": Yes, you need to see MD. I don't know if you have any other symptoms?  you might have an impaired coagulation. This means your blood doesn't form a clot to stop bleeding after spontaneous vessel injury or after minor truma.  This need to be confirmed by blood test and I advise you to see MD. Explain it again: Knots in the middle back are quite common and may be due to muscular spasm, sprain, poor posture, and other causes. Associated swelling may be present, but busing along the spine is unusual and should be further evaluated, if in fact it is as described in the question.

: Your theory is likely incorrect. If you observe new bruises in different parts of your body and you experience unusual bleeding such as nosebleed or bleeding during tooth brushing, you should see a doctor. If new bruise does not occur in a short time, you are safe.
