Many things: Many things can cause discoloration of a toe nail.  It could be blood resulting from a history of trauma or a fungal infection.  I would advise seeing a podiatrist or dermatologist to rule out anything more serious, such as melanoma.

Subungual hematoma: Probably trauma to the nail from a shoe or banging against something. The brown color sounds like dried blood.  That will also cause the nail to lyse or lift off

what are the chances of having subungual melanoma in the smallest toe nail ? brown line on pinky toe nail reasons ? is it always melanoma ?

Slim chance,see derm: though the chances are slim that this is a melanoma, you should be evaluated in person by a dermatologist. Sometimes, a bx of the lesion might be necessary to confirm the dx. Be sure that you provide an accurate  hx of the lesion to your dermatologist.

i'm concerned i have a toe fungus on my right big toe nail. there is a brown spot surrounded by some discoloring. and i can't tell what it is.

See below: This could be from injury and this is dried blood.
It could also be a wart that has formed under the nail
see a podiatrist.

No concern.: This just means that one of the nail cells is producing melanin and coloring the nail. There is nothing you can do about it and nothing that should be concerning to you about it. You are just special!

See PCP ASAP: Dark lines beneath the nail should be investigated as soon as possible. They are sometimes caused by melanoma, the most dangerous type of skin cancer.

Slow growth: The toenail grows very slowly and it can take up to 18 months for a (whole new) toenail to grow out.

had nail polish on toes for a few months.i removed it, and on my big toe is a big brown spot either on or under my toenail(can't tell),what is this?

This happens: sometimes from the nail polish. I would not reapply any polish, I would also prophylacticaly apply a topical anti fungal agent. Even, tea tree oil would be good.

just came back from a hot summer holiday, removed my polish on my toenails this week and found brown spots on every toe nail - all sort of close to the edge.  im worried because when i did my nails 3 weeks ago i didnt notice this.  it seems sudden ?

Brown spots on toes: Could be from trauma which you were not aware of since  you were on vacation. Would watch if it disappears over next 2-3 weeks . F/u/ w/ / dermatology / podiatry
