May or May not be: Since you had recent bronchitis, it is concerning that your symptoms are returning, and as well the color of the mucus being darker in color (brown)-you want to be sure it is not related and that you do not need antibiotics etc.  See your Dr. and get a good evaluation and clinical exam, so the best diagnosis can be made and resultantly the best treatment to occur. Mucous discharge: Swallowed mucous is commonly digested and absorbed from the upper GI tract. If you have mucous in the stool it is most often due to a colonic mucosal defect and should be seen and examined by a doctor.

Not necessarily ...: It's not uncommon with an active or resolving bronchitis to bring up colored sputum.  Often it represents your immune system's inflammatory response to an infection.  Be aware, it can be a sign of some irritation of the airways and old blood(though this is usually dark).  If you start coughing up any sputum with blood or blood clots or black material please contact your primary care doctor ASAP!

Strictly: speaking you are NOT "contagious" and can return to work..Ask your PCP (Primary Care Provider) for a COUGH SUPPRESSANT since your coughing may make your work contacts uncomfortable and it's not doing you a lot of good at this point!!!

Asthma: I'm suspicious that your persistant cough may be a form of asthma.  It does not sound like you are infected.  I would wonder if the cough wakes you up at night or if it gets worse with exercise.  If it continues you should see your physician.

It's NOT normal: You can say its a 'normal' symptom for having an illness, but having that illness is not normal.  It means the lining cells of your airways are being inflamed and infected, and they are producing mucus to try to trap the products of inflammation and get rid of them. Your body is giving you a message, but you don't seem to want to listen.  Stop smoking, it's bad for you and everyone around you.
