i got hit in the eyebrow bone/side of face with my shower head. it hurts im icing it, but can this be more serious? concussions? broken bone? i had a concussion in december of 2021 and now i worry every time i hit my head. it hurts no bleeding thoug?

: If you had any of the above problems you would know it by now. Swelling and pain is normal, icing is the proper way to reduce swelling. If you had a concussion you would be lethargic and not be able to stand or walk.  You know signs from previous concussion. Not enough trauma for broken bone. Take ADVIL or IBUPROPHEN for pain and swelling.

Pain/bruise/swelling: Bones have most of their living structure on the outside surface, like bark on a tree. Bone bruises can produce significant pain, but breaks will add some blood pooling (bruising) & swelling to the mix. The more dramatic the fracture the more likely a visable deformity & rarely bone parts will stick out thru the skin.

Fractured bone?: Both conditions are painful. On examination, both can be tender as well. The best way to differentiate is to get an xray. Some fractures may not show up on plain xray, but that is the best place to start.  Occasionally, if xrays are not conclusive, but symptoms persist, other studies such as MRI can be helpful. Intensity/duration: Broken bone often but not always associated with more intense pain intially.  Broken bone will aften preclude ability to weight bear through affected body part.  Displaced fractures (breaks) will make affected body part appear deformed (shortened, rotated or angulated finger for example).  Pain from broken bone may persist longer than sprain.

Possibly: Unclear to me what the issue is, however if persistent clicking is present following a radial head fracture it could be related to plri or an intra-articular loose body.  Examination and imaging should be able to determine this.  Surgery to "rule-out" plri is not  recommended.  If plri is present, reconstruction of the ligament should be considered.

Yes: You should have had an MRI by now to look at the details or a ct scan.  

I think that you need to have it scoped and the ortho surgeon can definitely see what is going on and see what needs to be done next while in the or.  

A good surgeon will give you a few of the likely possibilities in the office beforehand.

Radial head: The best care is administered by an orthopedic surgeon with experience treating such fractures. You may have to consult one at an orthopedic department at a university hospital if none of the local orthopedists don't have sufficient experience.

9/13/23 would a head x-ray show a skull fracture and the plate and screws used to fix it 18 years ago? do skull bones grow back together? with a plate and screws in your skull, is it more dangerous to have a head x-ray, head ct or head mri?

: An xray would show a healed skull fracture and the plate and screws, if they were not ever removed. Fractured skull bones can heal and grow back together, With a plate and screws, it is safe to have a regular xray and also a CT but the CT can have pictures that are distored because of the plate and screws. It possibly could be a problem with an MRI but that would be decided by the radiologist.
