From Vagina?: If the bright red bleeding is from vagina and thereby uterus, the answer is yes, this is definitely normal.  I typically tell patients that they can expect to bleed, on and off, for even up to 6 weeks post cesarean or post vaginal delivery.  Sometimes it stops and you think, 'yea, i'm through bleeding' and then a few days or week later you bleed again.

hi there, i had a c section on the 3rd of october, i stopped bleeding on sunday (13th october), and started bleeding again on monday (14th), is this normal? it's bright red blood with clots (not big), no pain, i'm exclusively breastfeeding.

Bleeding after C/S ?: Some bleeding is common after a C/Section, and may persist for 1-2 weeks.  If clots or tissue is seen , see your OB surgeon for an exam and pelvic ultrasound to see if fragments of placental tissue remain in the uterus.

Yes: With the bleeding, it is prob hemorrhoids, but you will need an exam to confirm.

Not unusual: Remember, breast feeding is not reliable birth control, so be sure to use some form of contraception if you do not want another pregnancy.

Probably normal: The first few periods after delivery can be heavier than usual. Have you had your postpartum visit yet? if that was normal, things are probably ok

i had a baby six weeks ago via c-section. i'm bleeding heavily, no fever, no vomiting. just heavy red blood, is this my period? is it normal to bleed this way six weeks after c-section? when will bleeding stop?

: Please contact your OBGYN or his/her staff who can obtain information about the volume and character of your bleeding. The number and degree of fill for any pads help them estimate your flow. Only when they have an idea about this can anyone decide if it is a problem. Please call them now.

Call your doctor: This may just be a heavy period, but it sounds like you are concerned.  A phone call to your obstetrician is in order.

is there any concern for a false negative result for a pap test while on your period? it was a very light flow because it was the first day. i had a abnormal pap the year before after my csection. could red blood cells mask abnormal cells? thin prep?

: I think it would be up to your physician or gynecologist who performed the Pap smear to determine whether the specimen on the slide would be acceptable. When we take a Pap smear from the cervix we inspect the specimen on the glass slide closely before submitting it.

i am 5 weeks postpartum from a csection.4 days ago i had protected sex but the condom broke so the next afternoon i took a plan b pill. last night i had brown stringy discharge when i wiped.today i had a mix of brown and red blood. am i pregnant?

Irregular bleeding: Plan B is an emergency contraceptive that contains high levels of hormones which, taken after unprotected sex, prevents fertilized embryo's from implanting in your uterus. The high hormone levels disrupt your menstrual cycle and can cause irregular bleeding. This can be as little as spotting or discharge or as much as a full period. It will affect your body differently each time you take it.

9 weeks postpartum from csection. feels like im pooping glass. sometimes have tiny red blood spot on toilet paper after pooping and sometimes tiny red spot mixed into stool. worried its colon cancer. going to doctor soon but looking for reassurance?

: Colon cancer is rarely the cause of rectal bleeding at your age so you should not worry much in the mean time. You will need an anoscopy or sigmoidoscopy for the diagnosis of rectal bleeding and internal hemorrhoids are probably the most common cause, especially you had a baby recently. Good luck.
