NO!!!: No steam is boiling water in vapor form and could burn your lungs.  Now cold steam will not work either. Cells in the lung called macrophages will "clean" the lungs over time. Avoid smoke.

No worries: It depends on degree, meaning the amount of steam exposure, not temperature. Kitchen steam should always be about the same temperature. Every adult who has done major cooking in the kitchen has inhaled steam, so inhaling the kitchen air that contains steam, during typical cooking for 10 minutes, should be fine. In general, no worries. Death by steam is usually only in industrial accidents.

: The household water is considered clean water so it does not harbor the virulent bacteria. Heated water kills almost all bacteria so the steam won't hurt you at all. Take care.

Matter of timing: Humidity is valuable for the lungs, especially in dry climates, but to my knowledge, does not prevent infections.  Nor does eucalyptus oil.  Some doctors recommend saline gargles and nasal saline rinses 1-2 times daily to protect against influenza, but even there, not well studied or proven.  But if there is active lung infection, steam inhalation (avoid burns!), should improve symptoms.

my daughter is really congested and has hard time breathing at night. i've tried vicks steam but still no result?

Vaporizer, saline : Vaporizers put out visible water vapor, humidifiers add water to the air, but at a lower concentration.  There are plug in products, that add only the scent of vicks, but don't increase humidity.  Higher humidity=less congestion.  Put vaporizer next to child, put saline drops/spray in nostril to reduce congestion, then suction, blow nose, or sinus wash.  Hope she feels better soon.

anything proactive i can do for a 4mm lung module grown from 2mm 11 months ago?  does anything help? steam? homeopathic? exercise? breathing deeper?

GUANABANA: As i can't or won't endorse any over-the-counter product guanabana aka.  Soursop in the us  apparently has some amazing remedies check it out. Ask your family doctor first before using it. Good luck.
