Go to ED. : The fume inhalation could have caused an inflammation of the lungs, and her “shimmy” feeling could mean she’s lacking oxygen, which would be troubling. She needs to be evaluated in an ED.

i was spray painting the last few days without a mask. i took in a lot of fumes. my right side of chest is sharp and i feel fuzzy. hard to breath deep?

Pneumonitis: Please consult your doctor immediately and get a thorough evaluation. Stay away from any substance which will further irritate the lungs.

i airbrush with automotive spray paint. i wear a mask but lately i have had shortness of breath. is there something i can do to breathe better?

Proper Mask: The usual mask is not really a good protection for your situation description.  Suggest that you get a better mask that has proper filters attached to it.

Nerves: It's almost surely nerves because 20 minutes is very brief unless you were spray painting chlorine gas :(

Alternatively, the fumes could have caused bronchospasm/asthma. If you're wheezing, you should seek attention since there are excellent immediate treatments available. I'm sure you did no lasting harm with such a brief exposure.

Test yourself: Count the number of breaths per minute.  If you do not have lung problems at other times, should be less than 20.  Try mild exercise you could normally do (stairs, walking a block or two).  If these are harder than normal, seek help.  Shortness of breath may not be from fumes

No: Spray paint could invove skin or be inhaled.  In either case unless there is a lead component to the paint or a benzene derivative to under chronic conditions be present the paint by itself can not cause skin or lung cancer.

Bronchospasm: This would only be harmful from a medical perspective if you have asthma or have bronchospasm breathing in such intense odors.

Accepted Answer

Not healthy: Painting in an enclosed area without proper ventilation can be unhealthy.  A person exposed to paint fumes could become ill quickly.  A one time exposure to the solvents present in most paints is not likely to cause any long term harm, but i would strongly recommend against doing that again.

Well you definitely: inhaled the product. Odds are it will eventually clear out of your. It is unlikely but not impossible that you have caused permanent damage. Not too much you can do now. Next time follow the safety warnings. They are there for a reason.

No clear answer here: It takes a lot of chemical exposure over a very long period of time before you worry about developing cancer as a result of this exposure. So do not worry about it right now. But protect yourself from future exposure when avoidable.
