i have chest pain only when doing pull-ups. it is at the base of my breast bone  more on my left than right. it is sore to touch , but not bad.

Typical muscle : This is typical for muscle strain. Make sure yourtechnique is correct and dont over do it. Rest and nsaids should help. If it doesnt after a week or so see your doctor and get it looked at.

i have chest discomfort in the center of my chest a little on left. its about 2 inches above the breast bone. it is tender to the touch. feels kind of like a sore. it lasted all night at work, but now the pain isnt really there even when i touch the area.

Likely muscular: Hello,

if you can really pinpoint almost exactly where the pain is located on your chest (i.e. 2 inches above the breast bone), than it is likely rib pain or some sort of muscular chest wall pain.  Do you lift weights or work out?  I would rest for a few days, take Tylenol (acetaminophen) or Ibuprofen if it comes back again.  It does not sound concerning for heart pain.  Hope that helps!

i have sudden pain top of right breast bone.pain is constant, also feels tender to touch and worsens when i extend my arm forward should i be concerned?

Be concerned: There may be a pulled nerve in your neck causing a "peripheral neuropathy" that worsens when you extend your arm forward.  See a neurologist.   An MRI might be ordered to find the nerve that is being pulled or compressed.

Needs work up: Likely GI related, reflux disease or hiatal hernia or peptic ulcer. 

More serious would be cardiac, which also demands investigation. 
Being sore to touch less likely.

Xiphoid: there is a structure of cartilage there, and hernias can develop there.
Suspect weight loss has allowed you to feel the xiphoid bone  better.
Easy for your pcp to determine.

is it normal to have a knot under your breast bone? i have a knot right under my breast bone and at times its sore and i have troble breathing because of it.

Not : Not exactly sure what you are referring to as a knot. At the bottom of the breast bone (sternum) there is cartilage that hardens with age.  It is called the xiphoid process.  I donâ€™t know if what you are describing as a knot is your xiphoid process.  Xiphoid syndrome is when that area becomes painful.  Does it hurt more after you eat a large meal or if you move in a particular way (such as lifting something or bending over)?  Possibly, it hurts when you breath in and out.  Sometimes the doctor doesnâ€™t figure out a reason why it is hurting but sometimes it may due to other medical conditions; like problems with your heart or your gallbladder.  On the other hand, maybe what you are feeling is a knot and not your xiphoid process.  The best way to find out is to see your doctor and be examined.

Call 911: Chest pain should be taken seriously with your medical conditions and age. Call 911 to have you transferred to the nearest Emergency Room for complete history and physical to determine and rule out potentially life threatening causes of these symptoms. Good luck

Subluxation: Hi ChrisF689  Sounds like you may have a slight separation or subluxation of one of the joints between ribs and sternum..or even more common, where the 'floating' ribs connect to each other along the lower margin.   Antiinflammatory, Ice and some gentle manipulation may help. If it continues, or your have any shortness of breath, see your practitioner.
