my 4 month old baby has so much mucus in his throat dr prescribed ventolin syrup but he said it may not work to break up his phlem as it's so thick?

Ventolin Syrup....??: Ventolin is med. For asthma. Comes in solution for neb. Machine, mdi, ; syrup. Very rarely syr. Is used now, bc dose has to be high, more side effects (racing heart, tremor, etc) than specific benefit of bronchodialtation. Your son has not been diagnosed with asthma, then &#x27;why ventolin&#x27;? Put saline nose drop and suck mucus with bulb syringe, use humidifier, keep room temp. 70 f; get 2nd. Opinion.

i have permanent post nasal drip throughout the year (summer is my only break but i still have some phlegm sometimes). dairy aggravated it so i cut it out in feb but was still sick the entire winter with upper resp infections. help :(?

Allergies.: That sounds like allergies.  Nasal congestion, runny nose, cough, headache, facial pains and earache can be triggered by fragrances, dust mites, grass, trees, pets, environmental molds and such.  There are outdoor and indoor allergens.  See a doctor soon, here or locally, as there are medications that may help.  You may also benefit from allergy testing to identify your triggers.

No effect: Loratidine or Claritin is an antihistamine blocking the effects of histamine on nerve endings and the cells that form small blood vessels. It helps treat itching, sneezing, runny nose and post nasal drip. It is ineffective for congestion. Topical antihistamine sprays like azelastine snf corticosteroid sprays like fluticasone are effective for congestion. You'll need a prescription from your hcp.

Guaifenesin : Ask the pharmacist at the pharmacy for guaifenesin.! It will thin the secretions and soothe the throat.  You can also try chloroseptic for anesthetizing the throat.  Cepacol lozenges also work well for soothing the throat.  Good luck and feel better!

Pediatrician time.: Hopefully, a pediatrician here will reply - but I have a feeling they may also suggest taking your baby to the doctor. Don't use otc drugs on such a young child without a doctor's advice. Do try to have the baby drink water as much as possible to help thin the congestion. Best!

Hmm: You can gargle with salt water or take a mucolytic like "mucinex".  Also avoid dairy.  If you have worsening chest symptoms see a doctor!

Usely  not: This is typical but there are inhalers that help to loosen and expectorate it easier.

Phlegm: The color doesn't always mean its a bacterial infection.  Can still be a viral infection and when mucous sits in any orifice in the body for a prolonged period of time, it can change color.
