BRAT is an acronym..: ...For bananas, rice, applesauce, and toast. It does tend to help, but is probably too restrictive. Just avoid dairy, sweets (including juices), and very fatty foods until the stools are more normal.

What happens Sat?: He must do something different on saturday.  Does he drink alcohol on saturday night?  Take a good history of diet and activity on friday and saturday to try and narrow the cause.

A little: Due to the imbalance of healthy bacteria killed by the antibiotics, you need to establish good bacteria in the colon. There are foods that can help do this in addition to the brat diet.. Whole wheat products, bananas help for short chained fructooligosaccharides which promote the growth of healthy bacteria in the colon and reestablish the balance between yeast and good bacteria.

YEs: Bananas- have fiber which will help soak up some of the diarrhea liquid
White rice- cooked of course
Applesauce- has soluble fiber which also helps bind the stool
Tea- try decaff - you need fluids- water or decaff tea, You dont want the caffeine- cause it makes you urinate- and that is dehydrating, and the caffeine can also make you cramp and worsen the diarrhea

Many: We need more information to help you with this. There are many causes of diarrhea. How long has it been going on? Have you been on any antibiotics in the last few months? Have you traveled outside the US recently? Give us more information and we will be able to help you sort this out. Start a probiotic as soon as possible in any case.

The Brat's Revenge: Why don't you chill on that. Let your poor G.I. tract readjust and normalize.Unless you're so stopped-up your ears are pulsating, just eat a normal diet with plenty of liquids and fiber and see what happens over the next few days.Prune or other thick concentrated fruit juices(apricot,pear)work for some people.Metamucil might get the gut going but don't stress over it, that'll just make it worse

Diarrhea: This is likely to correct itself quickly, but in the event that it does not, loperamide or Lomotil (diphenoxylat and atropine) (diphenoxylate/atropine) are both popular agents effective in treating some forms of diarrhea. Check with you friendly pharmacist to see if these are sold otc.  Good luck and hope you get the job.

Unlikely: From your history, you just got over diarrhea, so it is unlikely that your current symptoms are now due to constipation.  More likely your symptoms are related to the same virus/infection that was causing your diarrhea or from introducing food too quickly after a diarrheal illness.  Before eating a regular diet, continue with bland easy to digest non oily foods.  Yogurt is helpful.  Soup, rice etc
