NUMBER OF CHOICES: Pharmacological approaches include ritalin, nuvigil, adderall, modafanil, to enhance alertness and attention, but other approaches include rehab programs of speech therapy, cognitive-behavioural therapies, and even biofeedback.  Although there is little benefit for the memory enhancing agents used in alzheimer's, and occasional pt may be helped by galantamine (galantamine hydrobromide).

ABC's: Airway, breathing, circulation.  These are the tenets of "in the field" first aid.  They establish an airway (can be basic or actual endotracheal tube), breathing (mouth to mouth or bag/mask ventilation can also give oxygen) and (circulation: chest compressions)... That is generally all that is at their disposal.

Neurologist/rehab: Your local doc should know what resources  are available within your region. In some areas there are rehabilitation physiologists that work with such issues. Many neurologists also have much of that training.

i got mild traumatic brain injury 8months ago.i got ptsd 5months ago.i have emotional numbness.will it go away without treatment?im 19yr old

Polytrauma: Strongly recommend evaluation by polytrauma team. For TBI and PTSD, treatment should be symptom focused and evidenced based. Some of the same treatments that work well for PTSD can be used in individuals with mild TBI, and treatment should be individually tailored. Treatment is more complex and requires coordination and collaboration among various specialties. Please start the process! Take care.

is alternative treatment safe or will it cause more harm than benefit? i am a 90% rated disabled vet due to a traumatic brain injury i recieved in the military which led to seizures, cluster headaches, and a miserable quality of living on high dose narcot

First : First off, i would like to thank you for your service to our country.  I can't tell you if the benefits from medical marijuana outweigh the risks in your particular case there can be very significant deterimental effects from marijuana. 
  I would like to suggest another option, which is now available at some va medical centers-. Medical acupuncture. This is performed by a physician.  So many of our wounded warriors are obtunded by massive use of opiates to control their pain. There life can literally revolve around physical and emotional pain and it's treatment.
    Medical acupuncture is safe, effective and pretty non-invasive.  It is now being used at military treatment facilities as well as in the battlefield.  There are protocols for traumatic brain injuries, headache pain, post traumatic stress disorder, insomnia, ringing in the ears, loss of balance and more. I am using acupuncture at the military treatment facility that i work at. It provides hope and a real vehicle for recovery. God bless.

Try non medical Tx : You have a doctor and a diagnosis. Now they tell you there is no active treatment, so that rules out procedures or curative medications. To me this means try options such as physical therapy, relaxation exercises, yoga, or even hypnosis. You’re young and will live with this for a long time. You should incorporate your options into your lifestyle.

Research underway: Here are a constelation of studies:  http://www.Medicalgasresearch.Com/content/1/1/21. Most studies have been done with severe traumatic brain injury patients.  I believe that the jury is still out.

i am recovering from a diffuse axonal brain injury so i take a large amount of supplements. how can i help my kidneys process this many supplements?

Stop: If you suffered a diffuse axonal injury, you don't need many potentially toxic supplements creating problems for your healing brain.  B-complex vitamins are excellent with Folic Acid for neuronal healing. Other than that, i wouldn't take much else and allow your brain to heal.

Always some!: Its hard to say without knowing severity or more of the clinical picture, but there always is some hope, especially in the first year. An important thing to look at with a traumatic brain injury is to identify that new normal and optimizing function from that point on. I hope that helps a little and best of luck.
