Recheck/culture: I would be logical for both of you to be cultured for STDs and take medication for BV. It is uncommon to see this infection persist for 8 months.

No spread: I think you're asking not whether BV can be spread to another person, but if it can infect other body areasin addition to the vagina. SThe answer is no; it is strictly a vaginal problem. However, women with BV are at elevated risk of pelvic inflammatory disease (PID, Fallopian tube infection), so get care immediately if you develop low abdominal pain.

Unlikely: See a gynecologist and get this worked out.  Your bf may also have to apply antibiotic cream or ointment to his penis as there is evidence that he can give this back to you through sex even after you have been treated.

Copper IUD?: Certainly , if your IUD is Copper, then there could be a metalic taste to your discharge.  But remember that your discharge is like every fluid in your body.  Your bodily fluids are affected by everything that you eat, your hormones and medicines that you take.

Bacterial vaginosis: The causes of BV are mysterious. Most research shows no problem in the male sex partners of women with BV, and treatment of the partner makes no difference in chance of recurrent BV in women. OTOH, other data suggest that BV is sexually acquired some of the time. If your BV persists or recurs after treatment, plan on avoiding sex with your partner or consistent condoms for next few weeks. Discharge and odor: Bacterial vaginosis is characterized by a thin, somtimes gyayish discharge, that is mildly irritationg or itchy, and most often a "foul" or "fishy" odor.  It is usually treated with oral antibiotics (metronidazole and sometimes .  There is also a Metronidazole vaginal gel as well.

It should be safe: Men do not get BV -- at least they get no symptoms, even if exposed to the bacteria that overgrow in the vagina in women with BV. He is not at risk from either unprotected vaginal sex or performing oral sex on you. And of course oral sex by you is no risk. However, as you may know, gonorrhea and chlamydia are more common in women with BV, so get tested for them if not yet done.
