Sometimes but...: Straining at stool on occasion may promote colonic emptying , but you do so at a cost--increased risk of hemorrhoids, anal fissures, & even passing out. The better question is, "why am i having a hard time feeling empty." work-up depends on your age, sex, medical problems, current drugs, level of activity, hydration. Rule out blockage, rectal dysfunction, inflammation, non-gi problems. Don't push!

can pudendal neuralgia cause pelvic and vaginal irritation or pelvic fullness/tight sensation that lingers after each bowel movement? is that a likely cause? not pregnant, no surgeries, no std, no iud, no endometriosis,  no hemorrhoids. thank you

Pudendal neuralgia: Yes definitely can cause the symptoms you mention. The pudendal nerve on the RIGHT and LEFT side supplies the area you mentioned and controls sensation. In uncomplicated vaginal deliveries of babies, this nerve is blocked to aid with pain control as the baby exits the birth canal.

im feeling movement like fetal movement in my stomach but had a period enough to fill up a pad and with bowel movements just last month, i have the paragard iud, the strings are way up now can barely feel them & i had protected sex?

: See your GYN physician for and exam and he/she may order a pelvic ultrasound to ensure the IUD is still located appropriately.  A serum HCG test will detect pregnancy accurately.

ive had a copper iud for over a year but intermittently ive bleeding vaginally following bowel movements. not period related and definitely vaginal source. smear test a year ago normal. had 2 boys 3rd degree tears with both. is it caused by iud?

: IUD is not related to tears on delivery. IUD is expected to prevent pregnancy. For other issues it would be prudent to consult your gynecologist.

Gynecologist: I recommend having an examination by your gynecologist. Pelvic inflammatory disease, tubal or ovarian pathology are possible causes   of your pelvic discomfort and tenderness.

Address constipation: You shouldn't be worried that you have some vaginal spotting when you are constipated and pushing hard.  The history of ovarian cysts is not worrisome either unless you are having pain with sex, or general abdominal pain, increased fullness or strong family history of ovarian cancer. If so, see md.  Address the underlying constipation with increased fluids and some MiraLAX (polyethylene glycol) (or generic equivalent).

how come i always have to urge to do bowel movement before working or going to class? could it be i have anxiety? how can i stop this, because its honestly annoying. nothing else besides that?

: Anxiety or stress certainly could have this effect. You should speak with your doctor about the best option for you. The main choices may be whether to treat the possible underlying problem (e.g. anxiety treatment, e.g. alprazolam, i.e. Xanax® or similar drug) or to try treating the symptom with a GI anti-motility drug (e.g. loperamide, i.e. Imodium®) an hour before work or class. how do you know if your bowel movements are regular? for me, sometimes its once every few days, sometimes its twice a day, sometimes its pebbles, sometimes its other shapes. it seems very irregular. should i be worried?

: There is a wide variation on what is normal for bowel movements. This depends on you, where you live, your diet, ex revise and state of hydration.

Google types of stools and see if you can discuss. With a health professional if still concerned. Better yet spend a few $ and subscribe to uptodate and read all about what is normal, what is not and then discuss with your Dr.

Cramping: This could be due to gas passage or passage of hardened stool. It is also possible that you have a type of ibs ( irritable bowel syndrome); nonetheless you need to be examiined by a physician.

: Add exercise, and a stool softener or psyllium and see if you improve. You can slowly wean off these when you become OK. If not pl see your MD
