Tuberculosis is definitely contagious and can be spread from person to person.  Tuberculosis can be a serious health problem and can require many months of therapy with multiple antibiotics to cure. Scrofula: Scrofula, or TB lymphadenitis, is not contagious.  However, anyone with this diagnosis should also have additional medical workup to be sure there is no pulmonary TB (infection in the lungs) which is contagious.  TB lymphadenitis is quite treatable, but it is important that tissue from the lymph nodes is sent for culture and susceptibility testing to be sure standard treatment is appropriate.

: Live with someone with known active TB for a month &amp; you would likely acquire it. The cited brief exposure is not considered worrisome even if the person were known to be contagious. The germ is not an easy one to get.
