Bone grafts: Bone from cows, or bovine bone, works very well to augment the jawbone under the gums, for example, for placement of dental implants. Technically, it's not synthetic because it comes from a living animal. There are other bone sources, including pigs (porcine bone) and unrelated human bone, which also work well. Other synthetic artificial bone substitutes are available also.

One way street..: In general, bone that is lost through periodontal disease, bruxism, and aging cannot be reversed. It is gone forever. Yes: With periodontal disease, often the bone tissue recedes and the gum tissue stays becomes inflamed and swells. The difference in height of the gum and bone tissues creates a pocket than exacerbates the disease progression.

Recession?: What you describe sounds like gum recession which often results from brushing too hard.  Most of the bone loss I see is tied to 6mm pockets or more; 3mm is "normal."  Your specific case could be an exception, and your question can be best answered in person, and would only take a minute at your next exam.

my gums do not bleed upon flossing, brushing, using a sulcabrush but i have horizontal bone loss. i do not understand why this is. probable causes?

Need exam: There are a couple of things that may be giving on.  First even though you do not have bleeding you may still have  gum disease with calculus build up under yor gums.  Habits like smoking will increase bone loss. Clenching or grinding can also be a factor.
You should see your dentist for a complete periodontal exam and treatment.

As : As with any medical or dental problem, it is almost impossible to determine the cost of treatment without a proper assessment of the problem.  For your problem the initial assessment will typically include a clinical examination with full charting of the condition of the gum and bone as well as xrays.  I recommend that you call several periodontists that your dentist recommends in your area and ask if they can provide you an estimate for those services.

Peridontal bone loss: That  can best be determined by a periodontist.  However, this is probably the case as you had a significant periodontal procedure (s;c) and lanap performed.  Lanap is performed when there is bacterial invasion of both the periodontal/gingival tissues and the bone.  The purpose the of lanap/ scaling/root planning is to remove these bacteria to allow easier access for cleaning and proper home care.
