Likely a boil: It sounds as though you are describing a boil, which is an infected hair follicle. If it is a boil it will be tender. You can look on Google Images to see pictures of boils(But not pretty to look at). Herpes can also look like a raised area that usually causes a blister and ulcerates. Again&gt;Google Images. Boils : Boils in the groin area could be simply boils, mrsa, or maybe the condition hidradenitis suppurativa.  Hidradenitis suppurativa presents as boils, cysts, and sometimes scarring lesions in the groin, armpit, under the breasts, or buttock area.  Treatment options are discussed in the link below. Folliculitis: You should consult a physician to get treated . You may have a skin infection called folliculitis which may be due to staph infection and it requires prescription of antibiotics. If you are sexually active get checked for for stds.

Boil/furuncle: A boil is an infected hair follicle. The armpit and privates are common locations due to many bacteria living there. Shaving may also irritate. Effective cleansing/hygiene is most important; some deodorants may clog underarm pores and trap grime. Boils may resolve with moist hot compresses, but more often antibiotics and sometimes surgical lancing/incision. See your doctor for best treatment.
