husband got a boil in crease of skin between thigh and crotch. about 3 days ago he noticed he was bleeding in that area, we assume a boil popped. checked today and there's a hole in his skin now and a rash around it. should we go to urgent care?

: Start with a call to your husbands regular Dr first. They may be able to see him today and avoid the additional cost of urgent care. He will probably need antibiotics and/or wound care.

i get these reoccurring boils and swollen lymph nodes in the sweaty areas of my body (butt crack, crotch, armpits). i've previously been prescribed bactrim to treat them, but they keep coming back. what should i do?

Long-term antibiotic: Hidradenitis supprativa is a recurrent condition resulting from inflammation following the clogging of apocrine gland. Some patients require long-term antibiotic treatment.  I would recommend to see a dermatologist.

BOIL: The medical term is furuncle; an infected ingrown hair.  Hair follicles are connected to gland producing sweat &amp; other substances that moisturize skin &amp; defend against infection.  When ingrown hairs can't reach the surface, they "plug the system", allowing substances to accumulate below the surface. A boil forms.  Groin is a common site b/c the hairs are naturally curly &amp; prone to become ingrown.

Boils: Boils are usually caused by staph bacteria.  The bacteria often like warm, moist areas.  Sometimes boils need to be lanced and/or treated with antibiotics to clear them.  Using an antibacterial soap or wash may prove helpful for future eruptions.

DM and Boilds : Boils in the groin area are not a classical sign for diabetes.  Excessive thirst, excessive hunger, frequent urination are.  I've seen patients present with skin or other types of infections which led to diagnosis of diabetes.  Diabetics are more prone to getting infections.  But an infected boil is not a sign of diabetes in and by itself.

Groin boil: If it is not too big you might cure it by putting a glob of 10per cent benzoyl peroxide on it under occlusion (band aid or better yet small piece of cellophane

Apply warm moist heat 5x a day if it is larger and it may drain on its own
Some need to be lanced in the doctors office if too large or painful

Drainage: A boil that opens by itself and drains may heal on its own. Likely there is some pus mixed with the bloody drainage, although it may not be obvious. Best to keep the area clean and see the doctor if the surrounding area is red, swollen or painful or if the wound is not healing.

Common problem: I hope you used shaving cream as you would on your face. Also it is possible that you nicked the skin &amp; caused a minor infection that became a "boil". The skin in the public area is a little different that facial skin. Get to see your family physician or a dermatologist ASAP before it gets worse.

See Your Doctor: 17 yr old has "boil in groin...squeezed...hole in it". A boil is a local collection of pus in the skin due to infection of a hair follicle. Pain and increase in size occur as pus builds up, eventually drainage can occur. Squeezing a boil can cause it to open and release pus, leaving a tiny hole. Surrounding skin infection may require antibiotics. See your doctor for correct diagnosis and treatment
