No, but: Missed periods from anorexia is fairly common; it is unrealistic to say your body will "shut down", but there are many organ systems that may start to show dysfunction and failure over time without proper food and fluid intake.

Depends on the nerve: What happens depends on the type of nerve affected by the immune response. If sensory nerves are affected there can be loss of sensation; if motor nerves are affected there can be weakness or paralysis. One example of this is guillain barre syndrome. Sometimes the autonomic nervous system is also affected leading to changes in pulse and blood pressure.

Can you clarify?: The question didn't make it through clearly. Just because your brother died of cirrhosis doens't mean that you have it, let alone that you'll die of it. If this is an obsessive thought caused by the illness you've mentioned, then please get on some appropriate medication -- i don't see any listed. : The term, stonewalling, is used when one shuts down after being bombarded by negativity. It may also be called emotional suffering. It's a shame that your husband behaves in such an unreasonable, cruel, &amp; obnoxious manner.

I'm not sure: What you mean, but no, your body doesn't ever "shut down", except when you die. Be careful who you listen to, as they're rarely ever correct on any topic.

No: I would venture to guess most docs here routinely went 30+ hours awake while in residency.  You certainly lose your focus and are fatigued, but 30 hours awake is not too shocking to your body.

Depends: This really depends on a bunch of different factors.  If the person has little or no respiratory drive, they could pass quickly.  If they have even a weak respiratory drive they could have agonal breathing for hours.

Maybe: Of course it depends on the medication. If you had been taking cortisone orally for a long period of time, your adrenals which produce your own cortisone, shut down. This is why you must taper the dose allowing your adrenals to get back up to speed.
Other areas depend on the specific drug.

No, but major things: Prolonged bed rest can result in atrophy of muscles and in contractures where joints can be moved only with difficulty.  This can occur in people with strokes who are not moved and exercised.  Bedsores can also occur. If that person is fed the whole body will not shut down, but prolonged bed rest requires much support to keep muscles, bones, skin and lungs working well.
