sometimes i can see blue and green spots when i close my eyes. is this normal?

Accepted Answer

Yes: Yes.  You are just seeing afterimages after your photoreceptors have been exposed to ambient light.  This is probably worse when the light source is bright.  My patients always tell me they see colored lights after i examine them with bright light sources.  It is harmless and a normal photoreceptor function.  Curiously, the colors of the afterimage are generally the color complement of the light source: ie: if the light source is red, the afterimage is blue, and if the light source is yellow, the afterimage is green and vice versa.  This is because when viewing the bright light source, the frequency of the light source bleaches the photoreceptor pigments responsible for sensing that frequency, leaving only the complementary color pigments in abundance until the photoreceptors can resynthesize more of the bleached pigments.  Hence, the afterimage bears the color of the residual complementary pigments.  Interesting.

Freckle: Iris nevi, or moles and freckles, are the most common cause of a dark spot on the colored part of the eye.  However if this is new, it should be evaluated by an ophthalmologist.

Trauma: Although some birth marks on the bottoms of the feet have been noted to have unusual colors, they are generally never tender.  Pain and new onset of a discolored painful lesion on the foot is suggestive of a retained foreign body and/or infection.

a small blue-green circular spot underneath my toenail, in the middle. i discovered it when i removed my polish. i also have vaginal candida. fungus?

Accepted Answer

Maybe: The two aren't related, however.  Which is to say, that the candida in your vagina is albicans (most typically) and the candida (if that's what it is) on your toenail would be a different species of candida. Unless you have diabetes or some other medical condition that puts you at risk for getting candida in multiple areas of the body at the same time, the 2 aren't related. There is cream for toe!

Ocular migraines!: Ocular migraines are a form of migraines that take place in the occipital cortex (part of the brain that interprets/controls vision).  They lack the severe headache as common migraines.  The symptoms are usually all or mostly visual and are typically described as flashing of light or ziz-zag lights in the vision.  They usually last less than 30 minutes and affect the vision out of both eyes

should i be concerned that my husband has green spots on a sunburn?

Depends: I dint know the severity of these burns. If it was a simple first degree sunburn red, tender, warm peeling then I doubt you should worry. If the burn was more severs blistering then it is more possible to develop a secondary infection. Watch out for worsening pain fever chills and thicker fluid coming from the areas. If so see a physician immediately

How long have they : been there? Have you seen your eye doctor? Important to discuss with him/her along with specific other findings for accurate diadnosis, before worrying too much.

Green spots: The green spots are known as melanocytes and are benign. They are birth marks and may also be known as mongolian spots.

Worth evaluation : by an ophthalmologist, it can be just floaters in the vitreous inside the globe, but better be checked with examination and measuring of intraocular pressure and checking the back of your eyes, best wishes
