Yes: "cbc"  (complete blood count) is a measure at a particular time of how much of the blood is composed of red blood cells, and what the size and hemoglobin content of those cells is, and of white blood cells, including the various different types of white blood cells.  A cancer patient who does not have leukemia may have a normal cbc, or depending on treatment, extent of disease, etc may not.

Not a test for: cancer. With the exception of leukemias, CBC is not a useful test for cancer.

Accepted Answer

Maybe not: There is no standard "complete patient profile blood test" in the U.S., so what is tested for depends on what a doctor is looking for. A blood chemistry test such as a Comprehensive Metabolic Panel looks at 14-17 items, but isn't looking for cancer. It will, however, detect some side effects of having a widespread cancer problem. Cancers come in all sizes and many types, but need specific testing.

These lab results: are not worrisome and are essentially normal. None of them are reflective of a cancer concern.

Levels rising.: I depends on what it is they are measuring. If the Hct is rising that is good. If it is the creatinine that is rising that is bad. Lets do 2nd opinion so we can get to the bottom of this.

May be nothing: Reference ranges are set so that a few percent of healthies fall outside on either end. This can be fine for a man. Before you retest, drink a few glasses of water before the blood draw. If you have sleep apnea, have recently used anabolic steroids, or have a minor hemoglobin variant, the explanation may be simple. There are a variety of other possibilities. Best wishes.

Sort of: Some blood cancers, lymphomas, oral cancers are associated with the virus that causes infectious mononucleosis, ebv. It can be transmitted from person to person as well as through blood transfusion. For vast majority of the cases, cancer is not contagious.

Many: Did you recently have surgery?   Sometimes blood from the surgical is swallowed and the blood can cause vomiting.   If there is constant vomiting or bleeding, consult your doctor.

No: Cancer cells present in the bloodstream would be rejected like any foreign organ transplant. Statistically, plenty of blood donors must have unknown cancers, yet people are simply not coming down with metastatic-pattern cancers without primaries.

Highly unlikely: First, there would have to be cancer cells in the blood, which is not always the case.  Second, the immune system of the recipient would recognize the cells as foreign and destroy them. I guess it could be remotely possible in someone with severe immune deficiency due to illness or drugs but i've never heard of it happening. Maybe one of my colleagues at ht has.
