Pulled muscle: It doesn't sound serious. Likely a pulled muscle from it being stiff. The redness of the skin is odd but could be from irritation of the skin if you touched it. 
Watch for any worsening of the skin and try to gently stretch your neck daily.

If : If the pain is still present you should be reevaluated by your doctor. Also a pelvic ultrasound may be in order. You may be dealing with an ovarian cyst. Lastly, if you are late with your period you need a pregnancy test as well.

Infections ;  hormonal changes can cause spotting. If there is a concern for pregnancy then do  a home pregnancy test .  There are many options available to help regulate the menstrual cycle. Schedule a visit.

Period: Provided you did a pregnancy test which was negative, the day that you saw the drop of blood on your pad was day one of your new cycle.
