The : The disease of cellulitis generally has 2 main microbes associated with it..Namely staph and strep.  Out bodies are literally covered with these organisms.  Many times...Cracks, fissures and breaks in the skin allow organisms to gain a foothold and enter the blood stream.  This is heralded by a condition known as sepsis.  The body goes into shock and hemodynamic issues arise.  Given the severity of what you have described i would take him to your pediatrition...But i very much doubt the infection has entered the blood.

i am in hospital w/a "gram+ bacillus" sepsis..6/8 blood culture bottles are +. caused by a dirty cut then severe cellulitis. i have heart vegetation from it they say. also on cellcept. can you educate me on whats the significance of heart vegetation?

Endocarditis. : What you describe is endocarditis. The vegetations harbor the bacteria that are identified when blood cultures are obtained.  Sepsis, heart failure as well as "septic emboli" are potential complications   6 weeks of IV antibiotics followed by repeat blood cultures and follow up echocardiogram to insure treatment was adequate.

i have cellitus in the leg and my liver enzymes were elevated when they dis the blood test. is this normal with an infection?

No: Your liver enzymes should not generally be elevated from an infection, unless the infection is because of a hepatitis virus.  Also, if you've been receiving antibiotics, some of them can cause liver enzymes abnormalities.  Once you are completely treated you should have them retested.  If they are still elevated, then further investigation is indicated to find out why.

Not true: Some infections, and in fact some viruses can in fact infect the placenta and some fungi can do the same. Blood infections can breach and lessen the placental barrier by inflammation and traverse it.

Depends: Did anyone else ever use that razor blade? If so, you are putting yourself at risk for transmission of bloodborne infections such as hepatitis b, hepatitis c, and hiv. Even if you were the only one to ever use it, i would discourage you from shaving with a rusty razor blade as you can contract other bacterial infections including tetanus. Get a new razor!

Confusing question: A rusty blade is more likely to give you a bacterial infection around the cut if the blade was contaminated with germs. Hepatitis would only be an issue if the blade was contaminated with this set of viruses.Untreated wounds can give rise to localized infection that can spred to the blood if not treated.

Depends on age: The 'sed rate' or 'ESR' is a measure of inflammation that can be affected by many things.  The normal level is age dependant.  For women the normal level is (age+10)/2.

After blood infection it can decline slowly.  If you're feeling better clinically that's most important.  I imagine you're being followed by a doc who will keep an eye on it.

You shouldn't worry it's not declining faster

Sepsis: It will depend on the severity of the infection and if the patient's defense are compromised. Severe blood infection is very dangerous and deadly situation in which multiple organs are compromised. The key is to treat with antibiotics as soon as possible.

Not likley: Appendicitis can cause sepsis but not the other way around.
