See a GI doctor: Blood in the stool is never normal and can signify severe illness, although it may be due to hemorrhoids, anal fissure or other minor conditions. The presence of episodes of fever, however, reinforces the impression that it should definitely be evaluated by a physician and would recommend this be done asap, particularly in light of prior history of tuberculosis. Endoscopy: If you persistently have blood in stool, doctor will likely recommend lower and upper endoscopy. Hepatitis increases the risk of cirrhosis, which can cause varicose veins (which can bleed) in the lower esophagus.  But that complication is one that usually takes years to develop, and is seldom seen as an isolated symptom.

ALL ages: Normally there is no human blood in human stool.  Particularly some older tests may detect dietary blood from meat, etc . Bloody diarrhea suggests an invasive organism. Hemorrhoids can bleed - a common cause of bright red blood in stool.   Black, tarry stools can result from bleeding in the stomach. Any type of blood in stool should lead you to consult a doctor; risk of cancer  varies.

Abnormal: Remember and I have said it many times, any blood in the stool is abnormal and needs to be evaluated promptly by a specialist, either GI or colorectal. Do not delay. Most of the time it is benign hemorrhoidal bleeding but in the few cases where it is due to something more serious, early detection can save lives.
