Bloody milk stools: The most common cause of blood in the stool of an exclusively breast fed infant is from ingesting blood from a cracked or inflamed nipple.  Other causes include rectal trauma from temperature taking, or intestinal obstruction (this is very uncommon, and usually associated with pain, vomiting, poor feeding, etc.)  Breast milk allergy is very rare.

See below : Black stool (like tar) is evidence of bleeding above the ligament of treitz which is in the area of the duodenum.  This can mean bleeding that was affected by the acid of the stomach turning the blood from red to black.  There are other reasons why the stool may look black that are harmless, so get seen by you pediatrician and bring a sample of the stool to be tested for blood (a guiac test).

Goat's milk has many: Of the same proteins as cow's milk, so babies can develop an allergy to it. Goat's milk has 1/5th as much vitamin B12 & 1/10th as much Folic Acid as cow's milk. There's 1 mcg of folic acid/8 oz.Of goat's milk. Babies need 75 -100 mcg daily. Some commercial brands of goat's milk formulas add extra folic acid. See your pediatrician for supplements or change of formula  & evaluation of the bleeding.

Amoeba Shmomoeba...: Think about it this way: Whatever is causing the diarrhea, an infant is very sensitive to fluid loss, and other losses too.So if it has been excessive and persistent and the baby won't take enough fluids by mouth to compensate for the losses(dry mouth, decreased tears and urine volume, acting cranky and tired), it's time to see a doctor. Let him figure out the cause, whether amoeba or just a virus

Probably fine: I would not be worried about this kind of regular stooling pattern at this age as long as the child appears normal otherwise, is active &feeding well, growing normally and is receiving an approved baby formula, prepared or diluted properly. The baby's digestive system is still getting used to the child's new environment outsdide the uterus. Anything else seems amiss? Do check promptly with your md.
