A member asked:

3 month breastfed baby had blood in stool. seeing doctors already, just want other opinions on possible cause?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Bloody milk stools: The most common cause of blood in the stool of an exclusively breast fed infant is from ingesting blood from a cracked or inflamed nipple. Other causes include rectal trauma from temperature taking, or intestinal obstruction (this is very uncommon, and usually associated with pain, vomiting, poor feeding, etc.) Breast milk allergy is very rare.
