Kidneys on dialysis: Many people on dialysis maintain some level of residual kidney function. This is especially true for peritoneal dialysis. This residual function can make a huge difference in blood pressure management, and also in general health and mortality, so it is important to try to maintain it by avoiding kidney toxins (including medicines) and controlling blood sugar, and salt and phosphorus in the diet.

Blood  from the patient flows on one side of the chamber and the dialysate solution which contains the optimal concentration of electrolytes on other side of the chamber. Electrolytes move along the concentration gradient, so toxins which are high in the blood, goes to the dialysate solution.

Usually a: serum BUN/Cr and basic urinalysis/sediment will demonstrated if there are any concerning kidney issues going on.  Remember kidney dysfunction/disease has many causes beyond just appropriate circulation of blood; as in you can have good blood flow and still have kidney disease.

Kidney stone: Kidney stones is a very common cause of blood in the urine. If that's been ruled out, then the next step would be to do some imaging of the urinary tract. Talk to your doc about that. Eventually, you may need to have a scope dropped into your bladder to rule out any bladder issues. Again, this will be up to your doc to decide upon.
