what does blood (not reddish dried earwax--actual blood) draining from ears with tubes mean? pcp not concerned. i'm just curious.

Possible infection: You need to see an ENT physician maybe the one who placed the tubes.  It may be infected or granulation tissue around the tubes.  They should not be bleeding.

rn told me to use vicks sinex spray for 3weeks to help drain ear tubes after being on psedophedrine didn"t work, is it okay to use for that long?

Not good idea: Nasal decongestant sprays should only be used for about 3 days. Otherwise, a severe rebound congestion problem will occur and that creates a dependancy on the medication just to maintain normalcy. Sometimes topical nasal and or oral steroids are needed to break the congestion cycle. Best to see an ENT doctor for help. The eustachian tube problem will be  alleviated with the same types of Rx.

my mom thinks i need blood work on my 3 yr old. gets fevers 1x per month. had cold 5/6 times this year, ear tubes. cause for worry?

Would be helpful: To have an evaluation by a pediatrician, including tests for immune system. The symptoms you described warrant a visit to the doctor for examination and lab tests.

It happens: This could be a sign a tube is detaching from the drum and sometimes a little bleeding results. The kid could also have put a foreign object in the canal &amp; scratched it. It is worth an office visit to verify the source, but can wait until regular office hours.

No: Debrox should not be used in any ear that may have a hole, and a tube by definition is holding a hole open in the ear drum.

It is ok to use a Neti pot with S/P BMT ear tubes. 
If swimming, consider ear plugs to avoid water in the ears.

Ear tubes: Ear tubes are quite often expelled spontaneously after the problem is solved ie if placed for increased pressure or persistent pus in the muddle ear, they are expelled when the problem is cleared  and stays cleared ie pressure is relieved or pus is all discharged. Sometimes the tubes are removed if they are causing trouble or are not needed any more. This is done by the ENT surgeon.

my son had ear tubes put in 4 days ago and now his ear drums are bright red. should i be worried?

Accepted Answer

Normal : Some inflammation of eardrums after mt placement is normal.  Most ENT doctors prescribe  ear drops after surgery which should be sufficient to prevent infection. Call your doctor if still concerned.
