Big difference: Between the two, blood clot needs immediate attention and warrants an ER visit if this is suspected, pulled muscle can use rest, ice or heat, stretching, etc....
They are completely two different entities, blot clot can kill you, a muscle strain is just that a strain.

Ultraound exam: A duplex ultrasound examination, done by an accreditated lab, and performed by a certified tech will show the difference between a clot and muscle tissue damage in the legs.

Calf pain: Need more info , How long have you had this ? Any history of trauma ? What medications do you take ? Any recent log distant travel or recent surgery. , most common in a young  female would be muscle strain

Get to er: Leg pains accompanied by shortness of breath is a pulmonary embolism until proven otherwise.  Typically preceeded by a clot in the leg.  Redness and swelling may occur. However if the clots are higher up in the pelvis the redness and swelling may not be apparent.  Pts with hypercoagulable states are prone to spontaneous clotting and need lifelong blood thinners.  Need a ct scan of chest in ER asap

Get a Dr. to examine: First, have a dr. Examine you, and usually that is all you would need.  Definative proof would obtained by getting a vascular study such as a venous duplex doppler study.

Calf pain: Strain is usually caused my a history of trauma.  Very localized tenderness and swelling.Blood clots in the calf typically present with widespread swelling ,tenderness, increase in pain with squeezing the whole calf but can only be diagnosed by testing. Currently tested by a Doppler study. Many times the calf pain produced by a clot increases with time.

Tough to say: Statistically, it would be a muscle strain/sprain, but without a proper exam you can not know if it is something more serious like a blood clot.  Masturbating would most likely have nothing to do with it.

: The Achilles tendon may be involved besides the gastrocnemius muscle. Ice the area, take Ibuprofen OTC with food as needed for pain, resting that foot by using a crutch, and see the orthopedist as soon as possible.
