Call your Dr.: Any sudden/urgent questions during your pregnancy should be directed at the OB who is following you. If you have not had your first appointment yet, make an appt to see an OB of your choosing ASAP. The bleeding is probably benign, but you should take it easy, rest with your legs up and make sure you are not taking any meds that can cause bleeding like ibuprofen, NSAIDS, vitamin E, fish oils.

Ultrasound, hCG test: There are some things that can be done in the first  trimester to see if the pregnancy is miscarrying. One is to look for the size of the fetus and sac and the presence of a heart beat. Another is to perform a pelvic exam to evaluate for cause of bleeding, look at cervix, etc. Early in the pregnancy checking serial blood levels of HCG can be used to evaluate how the pregnancy is progressing.

Ligaments ! : The growing baby inside will cause an increase in stretching of the uterine and other ligaments externally due to the increasing effect of gravity from the pregnant uterus and increasing mass of the infant. Good posture, supportive garments that don't restrict you too much, and staying off your feet Or just being on yur feet for long stretches of time can help. I would ask your OB for advice

The most common cause for experiencing a brown discharge during pregnancy, especially in the later half of the first trimester, is that the body is getting rid of the older blood remnants in the cervix. As the baby grows, the original blood which is used to protect the womb is no longer required.

See your OB Dr for an exam and possible untrasound to determine if the fetus's hearbeat is still present. If the fetus is still viable, your Dr may recommend bed rest to prevent further bleeding/cramping and may monitor you more closely, doing tests for progesterone and other factors.
