Yes: Ultrasound does not provide the information gained from a PAP smear. You should get PAP smears as often as recommended by your doctor.

Vaginal discharge : Is common.  And your doctor will see whatever discharge might be present while doing a pap smear.  It sounds like when your doctor did your pap smear your doctor saw a discharge that he or she wanted to check.  There are several types of vaginal or cervical infections that a woman can have, and sometimes not even know it.  So it is helpful to you to have the discharge checked and see if it's ok.

Need to examine: The hurt may be due to pelvic inflammation and you need to be examined by your gynecologist. In the meantime try using a water based lubricant like K-Y jelly and stick to positions that do not cause pain.

Bleeding: the most common cause is a friable cervix (bleeds easily) and this can be due to pregnancy, infection, trauma from sex and hormonal changes.  Other causes include cervicitis (STD), polyps and the most common cause is idiopathic (meaning no specific reason or cause)

Irregularity: This depends on how old are you, what is your usual menstrual cycle, and whether or not you are in menopause. In any event, you probably need a gyn exam.

Your doc should: Have told u that sometimes it can bleed as long as he didnt see a lesion or tumor then the pap hopefully will be normal , it could come back abnormal, and sometimes bleeding can be from an undiagnosed std like chl or gc so the dco can run those 2 tests with the pap to make sure they are neg.

Vaginal bleeding ?'s: Post-menopausal bleeding in a 64 yo female may arise from the lining of the uterus (endometrium) , so a pap smear may not detect any abnormality.  A minor procedure to obtain endometrial cells may be necessary to determine the cause of bleeding (a "dilation and currettage").  Consult a gyn physician about this "next step".
