Possibl implantation: Many causes for bleeding during pregnancy, but all are abnormal, and require investigation.  One not too worrisome cause of light bleeding in early pregnancy is termed "implantation bleeding"--a small amount of bleeding that occurs when the embryo implants in the uterus that occurs around the time of an expected period.  Bleeding can also herald a miscarriage.  See your doctor.

Not normal: Yes, it is common to have a small amount of bleeding during the first trimester.  If you are experiencing bleeding later in the pregnancy, this should prompt evaluation by your OB provider.  This evaluation should include an ultrasound determination of placental location and cervical length.

Pregnancy bleeding: If pregnancy has been confirmed, it is not normal to have bleeding, especially heavy bleeding, during the first weeks of pregnancy.  Pregnancies outside of the uterus in location (ectopic) may cause this kind of bleeding, and should be dealt with immediately. See your OB provider to make certain you do not have a tubal pregnancy, which can be life threatening.

YOUR OB DOC: Sholdl examine u and determine what is going on, and do an ultrasound or 2 if nece. Often times , there is no treatment other than rest and no intyrcourse, unless you end up having a miscarr.

Epistaxis pregnancy: May be due to a number of causes, but Eclampsia needs to be ruled out with a BP check etc...

Yes: "decidual bleeding" can be lumped together with "implantation bleeding" and we can call them both "first trimester bleeding". I'd estimate 20-30% of pregnant women have some type of first trimester bleeding, and many go on to have normal pregnancies. An ultrasound is the only way to know that things are ok in there and to rule out an ectopic. An hpt will still be positive if you are miscarrying.

If you are pregnant and bleeding, it could be due to implantation and or early signs of miscarriage. Keep in mind, just because you have spotting/bleeding, it doesnt mean that you will end up with a miscarriage but follow up with ob-gyn is important.

Pregnancy ?'s: Bleeding at 14 weeks ("brown discharge")  and "mild red bleeding" at 19 weeks may have multiple causes, including the position of the placenta, covering partially the cervical canal.  This is not necessarily going to occur in your next pregnancy to consider it "high risk", but your OB physician should be made aware.

Very common: While some women with bleeding in early pregnancy miscarry, many other healthy pregnancies have spotting or bleeding early on. Call your doctor if you have bad pain with your bleeding, or if you soak more than a pad an hour.
