will a person die if they have a bladder infection for 5 months? i've had what i think is a bladder infection for 5 months now and i'm just wondering what the consequences of leaving it un-treated could be?

First : First and foremost, i strongly urge you to visit your primary care provider if you are having symptoms of a bladder or urinary tract infection (uti). If in fact you do have a uti, it can spread to your kidneys and cause a more serious condition called pyelonephritis. Once this occurs there is a chance that the infection in your kidneys can spread to your blood stream, which is called sepsis. This is a life threatening condition and can result in death if not treated. So the bottom line is UTI or bladder infections need to be treated, and if left untreated can lead to an unfavorable outcome.

have had partially treated bladder infection for 2 months. the infection was missed initially but later detected with urine sensitivity. just finished 10 day course of lefloxacin. still having symptoms. is this likely a chronic uti or ic?

: You need a urine culture to see. Call your Dr.  No sure what you mean by partially treated.  Did you not take all the meds. Discuss.

i am getting constant vaginal infections and bladder infections for the last 6 months. my periods are normal but the infections continue? should i be worried?

Resolution needed: Your combination of vaginal and bladder infections need to be resolved as to causation, thorough investigation with history/physical and testing. A Urologist may be helpful for the chronic UTI's as a referred MD. Chronic UTI's can lead to serious renal infection. The Urologist will look for urinary system obstructive causes.

Good bladder hygiene: Women are very prone to bladder infections if they are not strict with their hygiene. Follow these guidelines and it should help decrease &amp; hopefully eliminate .  bladder infections: 1) drink plenty of plain water ( 2 qts) daily 2) limit sodas to two 12 oz drinks per day 3) make sure that you are wiping front to back when wiping after urinating 4) wear cotton panties instead of synthetic underwear

Ask urogynecologist: It would be best to seek a careful gyn evaluation and consultation by a urogynecologist,  a gynecologist with special expertise in problems /disorders of the bladder and pelvis.

UTI: Urine formed by the kidneys is usually sterile. Bladder infections are caused by bacteria that travel from the vaginal area into the bladder. Incorrect wiping technique introduce bacteria into the bladder meaust. The lining of the urinary tract can usually kill bacteria and loss of this function maybe the reason for recurrent infection. Any obstruction in the urinary tract can also cause a uti.

Gotta go...: The most common signs of bladder infection are frequency, urgency, dysuria, cloudy or foul smelling urine, and hematuria, or blood in the urine.

Male UTI: Uti's in males are uncommon; may be due to structural deformities (usually picked up at early age). In older men, may be due to partial outlet obstruction from enlarged prostate; may prevent complete emptying of bladder; residual urine gets infected. Nerve injuries affecting bladder function may prevent complete emptying & require catheterization. Indwelling Foley catheters can b cause. See pcp.
