Harmless: Bismuth in pepto combines with trace sulfur to form bismuth sulfide in GI tract/tongue. This is a black salt. Discoloration is temporary and harmless.

Pepto Bismol (bismuth subsalicylate) : Pepto bismol (bismuth subsalicylate) contains Bismuth Subsalicylate and is useful as an over the counter medication for treating heartburn, indigestion, diarrhea, and other temporary discomforts of the stomach and gastrointestinal tract.  Bismuth subsalicylate is a highly insoluble salt of trivalent bismuth and salicylic acid.  We do not fully understand all the interactions although ‘bitter taste’ is commonly reported.

Yes: But if you have a problem with chronic recurrent heartburn you need to be evaluated by your General Physician or a specialist Gastroenterologist. Chronic unremitting heartburn may be a symptom of one or more problems that require treatment of the cause(s), not masking of the symptom.

Possibly: Both Dramamine &amp; Dicyclomine are antihistamines that by their actions tend to thicken/dry any secretions. It is more a side effect than the usual intended use.

Yes: The bismuth in Pepto Bismol (bismuth subsalicylate) can cause black stools. This can be concerning because blood in the stool can also appear as black stool. But if you took the Pepto Bismol (bismuth subsalicylate) do not be alarmed with the black stool unless it persists well after the Pepto Bismol (bismuth subsalicylate) is out of your system.

5-7 days: it might last 5-7 days after you stopped it.
if it did persist after that check with your doctor , you might be bleeding .

Black before...: using pepto can be a sign of bleeding in gut (and/or iron pills, charcoal capsules). Pepto contains bismuth-can give black tongue (brush tongue after use) abd dark or black stool. Any symptoms like lightheadedness, palpitations, etc need to see MD ASAP, to check bleed, dehydration, etc

im going thru food poisning and my waste has gone from a liquid to small solid amounts of pure black im taking pepto bismal?

Pepto Bismol (bismuth subsalicylate) does: Cause black stools (& sometimes, even a black tongue). 'food poisoning' should end in about 24-72 hrs. If your stools remain black in a week, or if your symptoms persist, you should see your doctor.
