i have black stringy stool. i called local hospital asking them if it was an emergency. she said i cant give medical advice and hung up. what do i do?

Melena?: Melena is black tarry stool that occurs with bleeding from the upper GI tract and should be evaluated right away.  Are you taking aspirin or similar medications?
Some drugs like pepto bismol (bismuth subsalicylate) can produce black stool.

diagnosed with a uti and gastrointeritis...been on antibiotics for a week and see little black stringy things in stool. any ideas on what they are?

Hard to tell: Possibilities are sloughed intestinal mucosal lining, undigested food, or other possibilities.
Rare possibility of intestinal worms.
Check with your doctor or may need to check stool.

Maybe &amp; maybe not: Dark-colored stools may result from iron supplements, foods you eat (like a lot of spinach), substances (like peptobismol), but most significantly suggests bleeding. When blood is denatured by acid in your stomach, as from ulcers, stools will turn tarry ("melena"). Blood may also be ingested from nose bleeds, bleeding gums... Persistent melena (without obvious cause) &amp; symptoms warrants evaluation

i recently had a colonoscopy test and im 24 a couple of weeks later im starting to see stringy black things in my stool could u please help?

Ift could be old : Blood. If you had biopsies taken or a polyp removed then its not uncommon to see old blood in stool. It could also reflect an upper GI source such as gastic ulcers. If you continue to experience the above then let your GI doc know.

See a doctor: These symptoms could be due to inflammatory bowel disease such as crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis. The conditions are treatable but need to be evaluated and controlled as soon as possible.  The symptoms and damage caused can worsen over time if not suppressed early in the course of illness.

Needs to be checked: From your description it may be a  gastrointestinal infection or colitis etc.We don't know what the black stringy things are.I will advice get it checked by your doctor and may need stool examination for blood,,culture and parasites.And if indicated may need colonoscopy  etc.

Need exam: The best answer will require pictures and examination of your stool. In our practice it is not uncommon to send the stool for examination of parasites especially if there is concern for blood. Good luck and please get checked.

Mucus: I doubt these were parasitic. Your physician or gastroenterologist can order a stool culture for pathogens including an analysis for ova and parasites.
