i was just wondering if black spot are found on a ct scan. is it cancer?

Accepted Answer

may need more tests: If ct scan shows abnormal nodule you may need follow up scans and depending on your history and size/location of spot, for instnace lung nodule may need a pet-ct scan with delayed imaging; liver spot may need MRI or biopsy etc. See your primary care doctor.

i had a ct scan of my brain today.is it normal to have a graph over top of the imagine then the next image without the graph shows a bright white spot?

CT Scan: With any imaging study, it is best to request a CDROM of the images so that you can take this to your doctor when you have a follow up visit to discuss the results of your test.  The facility that does your CT Scan will forward a radiologist interpretation of the study to your doctor as well.  This should clear up any questions and any abnormalities can have the appropriate follow up planned.

Discuss with Doctors: We can not comment on the results of the MRI and CAT SCAN.We don't know why the tests were ordered and what does the spot mean and it's location and interpretation by the Radiologist.You have to discuss these findinngs as they apply to you based on your clinical status

Tumor Unlikely: While a very small tumor could be missed on ct scan, a very small tumor would not likely cause a severe headache.  Consider migraine.

The Drs. can explain: One website says bone involvement in sarcoid has ranged between 1 and 13 percent, with an average of 5 percent. An accurate percentage is difficult to obtain as many skeletal lesions are asymptomatic and screening skeletal surveys are not routinely performed. Lytic lesions are cortical defects in the involving the cortex of the bone. That implies darker spots in the skull may be sarcoidosis.

Lack of experience: Basically, you don't know what you are looking at and have no way to make heads or tails of what the images represent. The, "spots" you are seeing may be normal structures or not. That's why we radiologists spend years learning how to make sense of those pictures.

Unanswerable: Many possibilities depending on sequence used, contrast, location of "spot" etc. The MRI report should provide details.

Please continue to: Work w/your doc or seek a another one.  He/she may refer to you to a neurologist or eye doc.  Stick with it until you have resolution.  Please don't jump to conclusions.  Lots of reasons for what you mention.  Peace and good health.

It would: Ct scans of the brain can provide detailed information about brain pathology, thus providing more information related to injuries and/or diseases of the brain. Findings could bleeding, brain injury and skull fractures in patients with head injuries. However, MRI will be more precise for details of soft tissue.

i got my first seizure during school and now my ct scan came back normal (yay no brain tumors or anything!) but my eeg came back abnormal?

Brain tumor: A normal ct scan is good but if the eeg is abnormal then you need to be evaluated by a neurologist who can assess whether you need to be further treated for the seizure history.
