Talk to your doc: Some of the medicines you may be on may have sexual side effects. Discuss that you are having this problem with your physician. There may be alternatives but don't stop your medicines without speaking with your doctor.

In some moods: One of the common symptoms of mania or hypomania (the milder form of mania) is increased interest in sex, flirtation, talkativeness, etcetera.

Accepted Answer

It is a symptom: Bipolar disorder has as one of the primary symptoms, grandiosity.  An elevated sense of self-importance, but to the extreme levels.  Some may believe they are god's or very important people like politicians and executives.  As treatment takes effect, these symptoms usually diminish.

can taking an anticonvulsant for bipolar disorder cause you to have seizures?

Accepted Answer

No unless stopped: Anti seizure medication actually protects against seizures and does not cause seizures. However, if you suddenly stop the medication without taper and have been on it awhile you're at risk of having a seizure. This can happen even if you haven't had a seizure before. That is why it is a good idea to taper the medicine down before stopping it.

bacterial meningitis, can it cause long term problems such as bipolar disorder or anxiety? way of thinking?  impulse control?

Bacterial Meningitis: It is possible for residual neurological effects to occur by  post- infectious syndromes or local inflammatory reactions. There is no specific post infectious psychiatric symptom. Years after the infection , an additional stressor may bring to the surface a sub clinical condition that was a residual vulnerability from the meningitis.

i have bipolar disorder and i want to know which drug is better and cause less weight gain: ziprasidone, aripiprazole or quetiapine.

Accepted Answer

Less weight gain: Forget the weight gain. You need to see your Psychologist and/or Psychiatrist to help control your bipolar disorder.

hi! how is it that lamotrigine can cause/worsen suicide thoughts and mental health issues, but still help with depression in bipolar disorder?

Accepted Answer

: Such warnings regarding medications for epilepsy are noted in the PI.  These are relatively rare and paradoxical side effects and should not mitigate the use of the medication in psychiatric disorders.

do people take test to know that they have bipolar disorder? i sometimes feel happy or depressed with unknown reason. also think too much can't sleep

Best Dr. Diagnoses: There are some Questionnaires that patients can fill out, but the true diagnosis is best made by a one on one examination form a trained Psychiatrist.  See the attached link for a PDf questionnaire that may aide some providers in the diagnosis.

No: Facial tics are not included in the diagnostic criteria for bipolar disorder. Facial tics can be caused by a few different things including medication side-effects. I have had patients who had both bipolar disorder and tourette syndrome. Each is a different condition.

can having depression or bipolar disorder cause you to have a lower iq?

Accepted Answer

Probably not: Depression, or bipolar disorder, are illnesses. Like any other illness, they can affect your ability to think or to process information. Iq is a relatively fixed quantity. So, it is likely that if you are, for example, depressed, you may test at a lower iq. But, once you get better, you would test at a level more reflective of your actual ability.
