Not recommended: 5000 micrograms OB biotin is not recommended during pregnancy as it increases the risk of miscarriages, and inhibited fetal and placental growth in rats.But no human studies have been done.But a balanced diet including egg yolk, pork, liver, salmon, cheddar cheese and whole wheat bread  contain biotin and normal bacteria in the intestines can also synthesise biotin. Most pregnant women do not supplemen.

Not necessarily much: To be honest true biotin deficiency is quite rare.  And while there is some suggestion that biotin supplementation above and beyond RDA(recommended daily allowances) helps with nail, hair and nerve issues(particularly those related to kidney disease or diabetes), doses this high aren't necessarily going to provide extra benefit.

Not recommended: Good studies have not been done on the long term effects of that dose of biotin on either adults or children.  Normal recommended intake for an adolescent is 30-100 mcg.  Additional amounts may be necessary in rare situations.

Biotin is a vitamin: necessary for the formation of fatty acids and glucose and in the metabolism of amino acids and carbohydrates. Because deficiency of biotin is rare, there is no RDA (Recommended Dietary Allowance) for  it.  Normal intakes for adults are 30 to 100 mcg. As you can see 5000-10,000 is excessive. Eat more cauliflower, bananas, carrots, liver, salmon. Save your money. Supplements not needed. Stay well:)

Why did you do it?: Nobody knows why, but biotin seems to make acne flare. Why are you taking the stuff? Get your acne under control with topical benzoyl peroxide and/or retinoic acid; this should be sufficient but if you need to add prescription-strength medicine, talk with your physician.

Vitamin supplements: The best way to quantify the amount of vitamins needed is to determine if there is a deficiency or if supplementation is to maintain normal values. 5000 mcg of biotin will be acceptable for your age if you are deficient of Biotin. As with all medications please discuss with your doctor before using the medication. Egg yolk &amp; liver are good sources, raw egg white can deplete your stores. Take care.

: Biotin has been investigated for use in progressive Multiple Sclerosis, but despite the promise of early studies, a large followup study did not confirm any benefits beyond placebo. So there is no recommended dose at this time. High dose biotin does interfere with lab results (i.e. thyroid). So please inform your treating physician if you plan to continue taking this.
